About Me

I really don't take too many selfies...this is about a year's worth... some are from shows and
dance recitals and some are just my normal day to day life (and hairstyles)

About Me Amended:
So, I really like what I said before and most of it is still true, however my career has changed DRASTICALLY in the last nine months. A year ago I would have said you were crazy, but I am now a middle school drama teacher in my hometown...and I absolutely love it! There will be much more about that in the blog because it is now summer and I can write more! I have every intention of spending my afternoons in a coffee shop working on lesson plans, reading, and blogging...THIS is the life... (oh and since I teach middle school now and work with the high school I use SnapChat A LOT and have a million more selfies ;))

Let's start this game out with who I'm not:

I am NOT an insightful Christian blogger who ties all her experiences into a wonderful lesson. I am NOT a mom blogger with adorable children (or dogs) that leads a stereotypical life. I am NOT an organic food blogger who eats only from Whole Foods and Sprouts and cooks dinner every night.

You're probably asking why I would say these things. Well, friends, we're on blog number four and for once in my life I'm going to be true to who I am. The first three blog attempts fell into each of these categories...one more successful than the other two, but now I'm writing about my REAL life and what I really love...

So who am I?

Hi, my name is Wendy. What's your name? I'll wait....

Strong silent type, huh? Okay I'll move on...

I am single and live in the blood red state of Oklahoma, but am as blue as they come. If you're not into politics you have no idea what I'm talking about.

I work for the state as an IT supervisor and as I tell any 'real' IT people I meet: I'm not a real IT person, I just play one on TV. I'm good at my job, but I'm not trained in it nor is it what I really care to be doing.

What am I trained in? Well I have Bachelor's degrees from the University of Oklahoma (Boomer Sooner!) in Political Science and History and a Masters in Human Relations.

Clearly those are the things I want to do, right? Nope.

I'm a conundrum.

After a nasty flood (three of them in less than three weeks actually!) washed me back to my hometown for the foreseeable future (don't worry, I have great eye sight and don't see this lasting forever) I rediscovered what I'm really, truly passionate about: the THEATRE!

Yeah imagine I said that as ridiculously as it looks. But it's true. Theatre and all things involving a stage are my passion. The stage has been the one constant for most of my life (at least since age six). Whether dancing or acting (never singing!), backstage or front of house, or just in the audience I have always felt most at home in a theater.

A few other things to note about me: I have a lovely little Chihuahua named Kai who I like more than most people. I am a writer and plan to write a book in the not so distant future (finally have a KILLER idea!). I used to like to read a lot, but I've gotten too busy for that. I'm a photographer, but prefer to do it for the love of photos rather than making any money. I've also knitted since I was a small child and am quite good, just never have time to do it. I've recently started taking tap dancing class again and the spark for dance has returned to my life which I love. I'm a REALLY great long distance friend, which works out awesome since most of my tribe lives in a different zip code, area code, state or time zone from me. I love New York (I don't have to go further than that...it will come up more). I prefer to travel alone. I like to match and am highly organized except when I'm not. I'm a very outgoing introvert. I'm fiercely loyal and would love to eliminate poverty, homelessness, and the mental health crisis.

I'm also a dreamer.

My favorite word is imagine. My favorite color is green. My favorite musical is Evita. My favorite song is Run by Collective Soul. I drive a silver Toyota Camry that gets me from point A to B and I could care less past that.

I don't have one best friend...I have a lot. I am blessed with a giant tribe that spans the country and I wouldn't trade them for anything.

I love Jesus and was part of a church start, which sadly closed, but was still one of the best things to ever happen to me. I love loving people and that was the perfect place to learn how to do that when it's hard. I don't always love 'church' because I think sometimes 'church' and 'religion' tend to get in the way of Jesus and what He wanted for us.

I am also a stage manager. I say this in the present tense not because I am currently stage managing a show, but because I've come to realize a stage manager is just something that you are, if you are one. I started stage managing in high school and in every facet of my life forward I see the same elements, so it's just who I am, the same as being a blonde haired, green eyed, pale skin Chickasaw citizen (that will be explained more later too).

In the last year I have discovered the beauty of life and the value in living MY life, not waiting around to catch up to anyone else's life (I'm sure some of those stories will happen around here).

I may have mentioned I love theatre. I do. Like a lot. My aim for this blog is mainly to document the beautiful works of art I see on the stage and I am part of. Some will be review types and some will just be thoughts (because I don't want to lose friends because I'm VERY particular!).

This year I missed seeing a show that I will probably always kick myself for (more on that later). In August I was curious and counted how many shows I had seen and then realized, knowing I had a 'Broadway tour' trip planned, I could probably see 40 shows before the year was over. As the year ends I have seen 52 shows: an average of one per week.

Sometimes I look at my life and wonder how on earth I'm living it because I just really, truly love it so.

I am really excited about this and I look forward to sharing my adventures with you. I tend to talk a lot (though I'm only at about 1000 words right now) and generally write in a stream of consciousness style. I'm going to try for most reviews/thoughts on shows to be 500-750 words to learn how to be concise in my thoughts. (I talk a lot in real life too) We'll see how that goes. There are certain shows (Hamilton, Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, and Dear Evan Hansen, to name a few) that I will gush about, but the overall masses I will try to keep it short.

Without further adieu...

GO BLOG!
